Spennymoor Boys U14s: Spennymoor maintained their position at the top of Russell Foster Youth League Division One with a 5-1 victory against Willington.
For the first time this season Spennymoor had a full squad available. However, this didn't help as they found themselves a goal behind after only two minutes.
Fortunately, they woke up and played good football for the rest of the game. Wayne Bolton notched a hat-trick - this now means six goals in only four games since he transferred from Ferryhill. Michael Gibson and Todd Franey scored one goal each.
Adam Watson unfortunately missed a penalty, meaning they have missed five penalties out of seven this season.
A word of praise must go to Craig Nichols who made his debut in midfield and played as though he was no stranger to the team.
Norton & Stockton Ancients
Norton U13A's visited high flying South Bank with hopes of extending their unbeaten run. The game was competitive from the start with every ball eagerly fought for. Norton had the better of the opening encounters but could not find the net, until a well worked passage of play with some nice individual touches saw Kennedy shoot from a distance with the ball beating the keeper and hitting bar and post before ending in the back of the net. South Bank fought hard in the second half and were unlucky to hit the post. Norton deserved all three points for a disciplined performance from the whole team, in what was a competitive match.
It was a must win game for Norton U15B's against Nunthorpe and in very windy conditions both teams played some very good football. The early chances fell to Norton, with David Scaife going very close. Norton came out the second half playing against the wind, but kept the ball on the floor. Good link up play between defence and midfield brought the first goal in a good strike across the goalkeeper by Craig Ferguson. Nunthorpe then equalised 15 minutes later. With the game looking likely to be a draw, up pops Marti Woodhouse with a winner. This was a very physical game but both teams played some very good football.
It was always going to be a tough test for Norton U10A's who were down to just seven players with no subs, and it was against the run of play that Spraire Lads took an early lead. Norton battled on and got their equalizer just before half-time with a good gaol from Mathew Garbutt. The second half was end to end football with Norton going close on a couple of occasions. Jaime Barton on the left wing and Jack Puckering on the right gave Spraire Lads a lot of trouble, with some great running up the wing and crossing some great balls into the box. With 5 minutes remaining, Mathew Garbutt fed a lovely ball through the middle for Matthew Simcox to race through and was 1 on 1 with the advancing keeper, but he kept his cool and slid the ball perfectly under the keeper to give Norton a brilliant and deserved 2-1 win. The Norton team of Ste Mackey, Max Craggs, Nicky Thomas, Mathew Garbutt, Matthew Simcox, Jamie Barton and Jack Puckering should be really proud of themselves for the way they battled to gain a great win for their team.
In a bizarre game Norton U13B's went in at half time 3-2 down against St Francis, when it could have been 8-7. After the restart, St Francis quickly went 4-2 up, and Norton, Cooky in particular, pulled it back to 4-4. Francis went 5-4 ahead & at that point Norton were unlucky on several occasions not to equalise, thanks to great work from the Hartlepool 'keeper. St Francis then went 6-4 up and Norton, with a quarter of the game left, were sunk. The last quarter saw three more goals, and to give an idea of the match, there were 6 goal-line clearances, two shots off the post, one off the crossbar and several great saves at either end - could easily have been 14-12! No denying St Francis on the day though, but well done to Cooky for leading the line in style to pick up a well deserved hat-trick, the other coming from Danny McAvoy.
A battling performance from both Norton U8's and Brinkburn resulted in the half-time score being 0-0. Norton increased the tempo in the second half which resulted in Norton creating several chances through Lewis Hopson and Joe Taylor. The break through came with an excellent run by Matty Dixon who crossed it for Lewis Hopson to score. The second goal was a wonder goal with Ben McHale taking a shot from 25 yards out which went straight into the top corner for a 2-0 win for Norton.
In a game played in driving rain, Norton U10B's and Hardwick did well to play some good football. Norton started on the defensive with Jack Griffiths pulling off two good saves in the first five minutes. Tom Blakemore, Daniel Chesser and David Roth cleared their lines on numerous occasions. On the break, Lewis Wing and Josh Peaden went close to opening the score. Hardwick took a half-time lead when Norton failed to clear a corner at the second attempt. In the second half, Norton pushed forward looking for an equaliser with subs Michael Bond and Matthew Dixon bring fresh legs to the midfield. Dixon set up Wing to score an excellent equaliser with a 20 yard pile driver. Minutes later, Liam Woodhouse converted a Wing corner to give Norton all three points.
Norton U11's opened the scoring against Kader with a stunning free kick from Steel despite some neat football from Kader. Norton had the better chances but the score remained 1-0 at half-time. Shortly after the break, a good solo effort from Paul Vaulks and a great chip from Colin Hassan made it 3-0. Steel added a fourth then Kader scored with a great free kick from Bown. Jordan Baker scored Norton's 5th after running from the half-way line before Arron Steel completed his hat-trick to make it 6-1.
