Tow Law Area League: The venue for the League Singles Championship has been changed to Cornsay Royal Oak but will remain on the arranged date - Monday, 29 March.

The League Doubles Championship will be held at Esh Stag's Head on Monday 5 April. The League Presentation Evening will be held at Tow Law New Market on Monday, 26 April.

Wilington League

Championship aspirants, Hunwick Joiners Arms saw their title dream fade when they only managed to pick up two points on their visit to Willington New Inn. This defeat dropped them down to fourth place in the table with an extra match played to the teams above them. Willington Lion and Unicorn lead the table by three points from the joint second Willington Club and Byers Green Royal Oak with the Joiners Arms a further two points adrift. Willington New Inn had singles wins from Pat Swain, John Perkins and Phil Blyth with Chris Burnham and Michael McClurg replying for the Joiners. However the New Inn clinched their victory with doubles points from Dessie Ayre with Phil Blyth and Lenny Glasper with John Perkins.

Crook League

Crook Belle Vue's hopes of repeating their Championship win of last season were slightly dented when they went down by the odd point in a top of the table clash against the visiting Crook Travellers Rest B. The Club had singles wins from Roy Hoggarth and Dave Hakin and added the doubles through John Warriner and Dave Hakin, but the Travellers clinched victory with wins from Jimmy Singlewood, Jim Ainsley, Michael Burke and Bill Fairhurst.

This result leaves Belle Vue seven points clear at the top but they have played an extra match over the second placed, Travellers Rest B, who are one point ahead of Crook Mill House.

In the Second Division Crook Coach and Horses B lost their sole ownership of the top spot when they went down to the visiting Crook Jelly's Bar A, allowing Crook Queen's Head A up level, although the Queen's have the advantage of a match in hand. Crook Jelly's Bar A are eight points adrift of the joint leaders, with Willington Brewer's Droop a further four points behind.

Gerald Parkin and David Stephenson took singles points for the Coach and Horses B, whilst Michael Jewitt, Keith Dixon, Norman Jones and John Gibson won their singles for Jelly's A, with Andrew Hutchinson joining Norman Jones to add the doubles.

Tow Law & District League

Barry Sims, the landlord of Hamilton Row Black Horse and Chairman of the League, hit the high spots in the League Singles Championship at Tow Law Rose and Crown when he beat Arthur Henderson of Tow Law Football Club in the final from a large entry.

In the semi-finals Barry Sims beat a fellow member of the Hamilton Row Black Horse team, whilst Arthur Henderson beat Colin Armstrong of Tow Law Dan's Castle.

Willington & District League

Phil Blyth of Willington New Inn made a great start to the final of the League Singles Championship when he took the first leg of the best of five against the down of John McIntosh of Willington Burn in the match played at the Prospect Club. He then added his own down to become the hot favourite.

However John McIntosh took his own down and Blyth's to level the match. In the decider McIntosh completed his great recovery to take the title by the odd point.
