Cleveland Billiards & Snooker League Sposored by Coors Brewers, Division 1: Guisborough T. A chalked up the result of the week as they held last year's champions, Redcar Workies A, to a respectable 3-3 tie.
Richard Beckham won the first two frames for the Workies when beating Stewart Briggs by 85-23 and 68-9. Alan Bringloe then levelled the match for Guisborough after beating Jason Robinson in both his games with scores of 61-36 and 67-22. Gavin Hubbard then won his first frame against Ronnie Bickerdike by 56-34 putting the TA 3-2 ahead but Bickerdike rallied in the last winning by 45-26 to salvage a draw.
Redcar Lakes A recorded an excellent 5-1 home win against Guisborough Cons A, during this match Dave Beckett compiled a 47 break while his brother, Gary, chalked up a 68. This leaves Redcar Lakes only one point behind the leaders, Redcar Workies A, but still with a game in hand.
Lune Street recorded a 6 - 0 whitewash against Carlin How A during which Paul Smith compiled a 40 break in his match with Mark Butters. The Lakes B team continued their good run of form with a 5 - 1 home win against Saltburn Cons. A. Redcar Cons A held Marske Workies A to a respectable 3-3 tie, Mike Collantine compiled an excellent 50 break in his first game against Ian Whittle, but Whittle rallied in his second game compiling a 34 of his own. Andy Williams also compiled a 33 break in his match with Kelvin Pickthall.
Carlin How B also held their opponents, Grinkle Park, to a 3 - 3 tie during which Mark Agar compiled a 33 break while team mate, Mark Earl, compiled a 36. The last game of the week in division 1 between Redcar Unionist's A and Ennis Square A also ended as a 3-3 stalemate.
Division 2
Result of the week in division 2 was recorded by Val's Priory A when on their travels they whitewashed Redcar Cons. B by 6 frames to nil. Maurice Mitford was the first Cons. player to lose against Peter Dodgson by scores of 61-35 and 76-20. Barry Walker then made it 4 frames to nil when beating Steve Anderson by 48-20 and 59-18. John Bracchi then completed the rout after beating Mike Marshall with scores of 53- 27 and 77-18. Val's Priory have now jumped into 4th spot but are only 3 points away from the second automatic promotion slot but with a game in hand.

Worthington CIU Winter League
Wingate hit their best form with a home win over league leaders, Spennymoor A and in the process caused two of the Moors players to relinquish a share of the top spot in the race for the Individual Player of the Year. Eddie Rhodes put the Moors ahead but Dean Jones took the final black to move Paul Atkinson out of the top individual spot. Paul Biddle restored the visitors' lead but then John Bourne removed the visiting Michael Pratt from equal top spot. In the decider Jimmy Mason took Wingate to victory by beating Ronnie Bateman.
Wheatley Hill A closed the gap at the top to just one point when they only dropped one point at Shotton Palms, but again this cost a share of top individual spot when Dave Swindle put in a 32 break to beat the visiting Dave Walker. Ronnie Peacock's win for the Hill made him the sole occupant of top spot in the individual, whilst Dennis Clish, Alan Hall and Dean Bryden joined him as Wheatley Hill winners.
Witton Gilbert moved into third place, 14 points behind Wheatley Hill A, with two wins. They beat the visiting Bearpark A in the decider and then won away at Cockton Hill for the loss of only one point. Paul Nord put in breaks of 43 and 35 for Witton and Andrew Aisbitt put in a 60 break for Cockton Hill.
Cockton Hill suffered a second defeat when they never led the visiting Old Shildon. David Waites put the visitors ahead but Andrew Aisbitt levelled with a 55 break. Paul Armstrong restored the Shildon lead only to see Harold Lomax level. In the decider Martin Taylor put in a 31 break to beat the home captain, George Chapman.
Sherburn Village's defeat at Brandon moved them dangerously near to the relegation spots. Kevin Sample, Colin Goodrick, Brian Graham and John hall took the first four points for Brandon with John Bower saving the whitewash by winning the fifth.
Despite a good fight back, Newton Aycliffe look doomed for the drop after they went down at Fishburn A. John Carter, Charlie Hirst and Brian Quest put Fishburn into a winning lead but the visitors fought back with wins from Bill Barrigan and John Briddick.
Second Division leaders, Crowtrees A took the first two frames at home to Willington through Sonny Hann with a 30 break and Keith McLauchlan with a 33 break. However Willington stormed back to level with wins from Jeremy Martin and Arthur Goldsborough with a 34 break. In the decider the visiting Gordon Parkin beat Peter Laverick. This result leaves Crowtrees ten points clear of Newhouse, who are one ahead of Willington.
Newhouse only dropped one point on their visit to Wheatley Hill B, who lost two matches to increase their relegation worries. Newhouse had wins from Ronnie Pearson, Paul Wright, Ian Dinsdale and Brian Thompson with Tony Ellison taking the Hill's lone point. Keith Connor joined Ellison as the Wheatley Hill B winners against the visiting Stanley Central, who went to victory with wins from Mike McGee, Frank Foster and Jim Dufton. These results leave both teams sharing the bottom spot with Langley Park.
Langley Park were never headed by the visiting Sacriston, who had wins from Kevin Laing and Willy Nixon, with the Park gaining valuable points through Lawrence Jones, David Ellison and Stephen Coates.
Coundon's odd point win over the visiting Meadowfield did nothing for either of these two promotion candidates as both needed a big win to get back in touch. The home side took the first three through Billy Goggins, Frank Nicholson and Graham Goulbourn, with Stephen Hughes and Ian Hodgson replying for Meadowfield.
Spennymoor B's promotion hopes died when the visiting Belmont beat them. Gary Easen and Alan Clarke won for the Moors with Billy McGrath, Michael Short and Tom Robinson senior winning for Belmont.
Tow Law A dented the promotion hopes of the visiting Hunwick A with an odd point victory. The Lawyers had wins from Tommy Williams, Alan Spence, who took a re-spotted black to remove Peter Mernor from a share of the top individual table, and Hepple Hodgson, whilst the visitors replied with wins from Neville Blenkinsopp and Ian Richardson.
New Durham remained 12 points clear at the top of the Third Division with an odd point win over the visiting Tow Law B. Tony Thompson, Thomas Cairns and Brian Birks won for the home side with Eric Lockerbie and John Wilson replying.

Crook League
Willington Market virtually put paid to their hosts at Crook Olde Horse Shoe A repeating last season's Championship victory when they won by three points. This leaves the Shoe nine points behind the leaders, Crook Travellers Rest B with only two matches remaining. However the Shoe do look to be favourite for the runners-up spot as they lead Crook Royal Sun by eight points.
The Olde Horse Shoe A's only singles point came from Dave Walker, who was joined by Steve Liddle to add their other point from the doubles, whilst the Market had singles wins from Micky Toward, Gary Trow, Dave Tobbell, Paul Briddick and Ian Moore.
Crook White Swan B strengthened their promotion chances when they whitewashed their hosts at Crook Jelly's Bar B. Crook Coach and Horses B lead the Second Division by 30 points from the White Swan B, who are five points ahead of Crook Olde Horse Shoe B.

Worthington CIU Pairs Championship
David Harris and Andy Craig of Stanley Central met Bob Reay and Ronnie Peacock of Wheatley Hill in the semi-final at Coundon Club in match decided on the aggregate scores over three frames.
The Stanley pair got away to a good start in the first frame and when Harris put in a 32 break it paved the way to an 82-26 win. In the second frame Reay and Peacock settled more into their normal form and were able to close the gap by taking the second frame at 66-51. However, Harris and Craig settled back into the form of the first frame to take the third at 92-32 to reach their first final in the Association's competitions.
In the final David Harris and Andy Craig will meet former winners, George Chapman and Andrew Aisbitt of Cockton Hill on Thursday, 22 April at Newhouse Club.
South West Durham Association
The Association League will start on Tuesday, 6 April with two divisions of seven teams each. The teams in the First Division are Darlington Snooker Club A, Hopetown, Bishop Auckland Golf Club, Barnard Castle Glaxo, Bishop Auckland Cricket Club, Darlington Cricket Club and Old Shildon.
The Second Division teams are Bishop Auckland Kingsway Club, Northgate, Newton Aycliffe Southerne Club, Shildon Elm Road, Tindale Crescent and Darlington Snooker Club B and C.

The results of the quarter finals were Dave Walker (Wheatley Hill A) beat Paul Nord (Witton Gilbert); Graham Golbourn (Coundon) lost to Steve Armstrong (Crowtrees A); Kevin Sample (Brandon) lost to John Bower (Sherburn Village); John Hall (Brandon) lost to Mark Appleby (Sacriston).
