The Anglo-Scottish Tournament: The tournament took place at Ashington, and due to the weather a number of teams were unable to participate.
Durham's team alone had three players making their County debut. However, the team came second, beating Northumberland 8-7 in a close opening match. Cumbria proved easier opponents and Durham won 10-5. However, the powerful Lothian team defeated Durham 11-4 to take the title and push them into second.
