A TALENT competition aimed at finding some golden oldies has been launched.
Age Concern is running the Silver Stars Talent Contest with Yours Magazine and Emap Esprit, in a bid to find comedians, singers, musicians, dancers and entertainers who are over 60.
Age Concern Darlington is holding a local heat for the national competition, at Bradbury House, Beaumont Street West, in May.
The winning act, chosen by a panel of judges, will go forward to an area final at Middlesbrough Theatre on June 10. Selected acts will then represent Darlington at the national final, at Southport Theatre on July 28. There are cash prizes of up to £1,000 for the area and national heats.
Each act can consist of up to four people and an accompanist if required, and must not exceed six minutes.
Contestants have to live in the Darlington Borough Council area and must be amateur, unpaid performers.
Councillor Glen Reynolds, of Age Concern Darlington, said: "The Pop Idol contest showed just how much young talent there is in Darlington and the North-East.
"Now is the chance for our senior citizens to enter the showbusiness limelight.
"With our proud tradition of a civic theatre and a lively arts centre in the town, I am sure that the standard will be high."
