A REMINDER of two busy weeks that a town will not soon forget has been installed in a museum.
More than 22,000 people converged on Middlesbrough to see the replica of explorer Captain James Cook's bark, HMS Endeavour, visit the town, during the annual Captain Cook celebrations, last year.
The celebrations coincided with the 275th anniversary of the birth of Captain Cook, the 25th anniversary of the Captain Cook Birthplace Museum, in Stewart Park, Middlesbrough, and the 150th anniversary of the town itself.
A display of 60 colour photographs has gone on show at the museum, depicting the arrival, welcome and departure of the ship, the music, drama, street and theatre events which took place, crowd scenes and television Time Team's Big Dig for traces of the explorer's birthplace cottage in the park.
The Duke of York, one of the first visitors to go on board the HMS Endeavour replica, has written a foreword for a publication accompanying the exhibition. The exhibition runs until Monday, May 3.
