PUPILS from a Richmond school have been spreading the healthy eating message, selling fruit from a stall at breaktimes.
Apples, oranges and kiwi fruit are all proving so popular, queues have been forming every day, with a share of the profits going to charities chosen by the children.
The project was dreamed up by pupils at Richmond Church of England Primary, where each class has a representative on the school council.
Teacher Paul Cullen said: "The stall is manned by a rota of children - both infants and juniors.
"Two girls count the money every day and, at the end of the week, any profit is given to the school council account and is split between providing for the children and a charity account."
Causes which will benefit from this year's fundraising efforts are the RSPCA, the Great North Air Ambulance and a village nursery in Uganda.
