A GENEROUS community effort has helped to boost the funds of a cancer relief charity, while providing an entertaining night for local people.
Musicians and other performers gave their services free of charge for the event staged in Lanchester.
Well-known local singer Glen Thomas organised the concert night, at Lanchester Social Club, and called in a few favours from friends on the local music scene. He was backed by fellow vocalist Glyn Morgan and the Consett Federation Show Band.
It proved a family affair as Glen's wife, Julie, visited many shops and businesses in the village to put together an array of 24 raffle prizes.
The combined efforts helped to raise £551 for Macmillan Cancer Relief, including £199 from the raffle.
Lanchester and District Macmillan Committee secretary Brenda Hall thanked all who helped to organise the night, and the performers.
