A GIRLS' football team is celebrating after winning a tournament involving 800 youngsters from across County Durham.
Members of the year seven side from Easington Community School won all eight of their matches in the competition, conceding only two goals.
The event was held at Durham University's Maiden Castle sports centre and organised by the county council's PE and Sport advisory unit.
Twenty-one secondary and 58 primary schools took part.
PE teacher Helen Kinghorn praised the team, which was formed in September.
She said: "Congratulations to the whole team. They all played their best and worked extremely well together.
"There was an excellent team spirit and all the players helped each other.
"The woman of the tournament was Katy Hemmingway"
Pupils who took part were captain Jade Pye, Stephanie Shannon, Katy Hemmingway, Laura Elwell, Rachael Humphries, Natalie Bond, Yasmin Winn, Faye Johnson and Carly Moore.
The primary schools' final will be held at Maiden Castle, in May. Teams from Ouston, Shotton Hall from Peterlee, St Patrick's from Consett and Cockton Hall from Bishop Auckland, have all qualified.
