MOTORWAY message signs business VMS is creating 15 jobs following investment in its research and development facilities.
The facilities at the Hebburn, South Tyneside, site enable the business to simulate the climatic conditions experienced by its variable message signs, from temperatures of -30 degrees Celsius to 100C.
Equipment has also been installed for advanced optical testing for the next generation of signs to be introduced by the Highways Agency.
The company, which employs 53 staff, is poised to expand into other areas, including air traffic control and rail signal markets.
Managing director Roger Stainforth said: "We expect to be adding around 30 per cent more workers to the current staff levels this year."
VMS' operations on Tyneside include 35,000sq ft of manufacturing and office space, with 1.5 acres available for expansion.
