A LUXURY home has been put up for sale in a North-East town with a £1m price tag.
The six bedroom house, set in two acres of land, is thought to be the first in Darlington to reach the £1m mark - as the current property boom shows no sign of slowing.
Heralded as one of Darlington's finest homes, The Lindens, in Carmel Road South, has already attracted considerable interest since it was put up for sale last Friday.
Housing specialists agree it is an exceptional property, but say its seven figure cost is a reflection on strong price growth in the North-East.
"Property at the moment is on the up and it is a good thing that we are able to sell something of this stature in Darlington," said a spokesman from Smiths Gore, which has the property on its books.
"There has been a lot of interest, so the price tag clearly hasn't put people off."
The three-storey property, built in the 1930s, is set in secluded grounds and has a separate cottage, its own gym, formal gardens and a paddock.
Andrew Potter, associate director of JW Wood estate agents, in Darlington, is not surprised there is a £1m house available in the town.
"Darlington is leading the way in the property boom. Prices are rising quickly - it's like a runaway train and nothing is getting in its way," he said.
"Not long ago, you could pick up a terrace house for £30,000, but prices have doubled and now you would struggle to find anything under £60,000.
House prices across the UK have risen by 0.7 per cent this month and experts at property website Home-track say growth has been strongest in the region
