A CHARITY providing an advocacy service to vulnerable people has been awarded a £5,000 grant.
Hambleton and Richmondshire Advocacy has been awarded the money by the Lloyds TSB Foundation for England and Wales.
The charity provides an advocacy service to vulnerable or disadvantaged people living in the area. Problems arising from transport and the closure of care homes have increased the need for help for elderly people in Hambleton and Richmondshire.
The grant will contribute towards the salary costs of a part-time advocacy worker.
Penny Pilling, manager of the charity, said: "This donation is wonderful news at the start of the year. Fundraising is difficult at the best of times, and it is reassuring to know that an organisation like the Lloyds TSB Foundation is committed to supporting our essential work.
"Thanks to this money, we can continue to help local people to make positive changes to their everyday lives."
The foundation also awarded £3,000 to Harrogate Interact Performance Group, £2,000 to help create disabled toilet facilities at Cropton Reading Room and £2,000 to Richmond Scouts for an access ramp and entrance to their scout hut.
Swaledale Fell Rescue Organisation received £2,000 to buy VHF handsets and radios and Hutton Rudby Village Hall and recreation ground received £2,000 to make the facilities more accessible.
