A WOMAN barred from working as a prostitute from every street in Britain is launching a fight to stay out of jail.
Amanda Jane Riley, 23, spent Wednesday night in custody after being arrested by Cleveland Police for loitering for the purpose of prostitution in Middlesbrough.
Linked to that is an allegation that she is in breach of an anti-social behaviour order imposed by magistrates last year forbidding her to solicit or loiter in any street or road in the country.
If found guilty of breaching the order, Ms Riley would face a prison sentence, but she is to deny both charges.
Crown prosecuting solicitor Alan Rutter told Teesside magistrates that the anti-social behaviour order made by magistrates in Birmingham excludes Ms Riley from working as a prostitute in a specific area of that city, but also instructs her not to "solicit or loiter in any street or highway for the purposes of prostitution".
"It appears on the face of it to operate in any street in the UK," defence solicitor John Dobson told the court.
"It prevents her from carrying out that profession on any street whatsoever.
He said Ms Riley, of Southfield Road, Middlesbrough, would be entering pleas of not guilty to both charges.
Mr Dobson said she appeared in court in the clothes she was wearing at the time of her arrest in Bridge Street West - a track suit, not a short beige skirt, as police had said.
She was remanded on conditional bail, to appear before the court again, on April 16.
The conditions include an 8pm to 8am curfew, during which she must stay indoors, that she remains at the house in Southfield Road and reports to Middlesbrough police station twice a week.
