A TEENAGER from Chester-le-Street is one of only three army cadets chosen to represent the country in an open target rifle shooting competition.

Staff Sergeant Richard Stebbings, 17, will shoot for the Great Britain team at a contest to be held in the Channel Islands in August.

He has been a member of Chester-le-Street Detachment Durham Army Cadet Force (ACF) for four years and is a pupil of Park View Community School.

Richard lists his hobbies as cadets and target shooting and has ambitions to join the regular Army as an officer.

He has represented Durham ACF over the last two years at the Bisley International Shooting Competition gaining top hundred status on both occasions and came twentieth last year.

Major Alison Twinn, B Company Commander of Durham ACF said, "We are all tremendously proud of Richard and his excellent achievement. He has represented both Durham and the North-East on several occasions and now has received national status, which is absolutely remarkable."

Richard is hoping to travel to India with the cadets later this year in an exchange scheme as well as attending an annual camp in Germany.

Durham ACF are looking for cadets aged 12-18 years and the adults to train them.

No experience is necessary as full training will be given.
