A THEATRE is appealing for youngsters to join the audiences with a buy-one-get-one-free offer.

The four-play summer session at Darlington's Civic Theatre, by Ian Dickens Productions, starts on June 15.

Up to 100 students can buy a ticket for £5 and receive free entry to the next play.

Director Ian Dickens yesterday launched the season at the theatre before moving on to Darlington's Queen Elizabeth Sixth Form College to discuss the scheme with students.

With him were television and stage stars Paul Shane, Scott Wright and Tina Hall.

Mr Shane, who became a household name with BBC TV series Hi-de-hi, former Coronation Street actor Mr Wright and five's Family Affairs soap star Ms Hall are appearing in the Ray Cooney farce Out Of Order, which runs at the theatre from July 6 to 10.

Other plays being presented are Noel Coward's Blithe Spirit, starring Judy Cornwell; Outside Edge by Richard Harris, starring former EastEnder Craig Fairbrass; and Henry James' horror story The Turn Of The Screw.

Mr Shane said: "We need as many children as possible in the audience because they are the future of theatre."

At least two young faces will be seen inside the theatre for the June 29 to July 3 run of The Turn Of The Screw. Open auditions for the children's parts of Flora and Miles will be held at Darlington Arts Centre on Monday, at 4pm. Acting hopefuls must be aged between 11 and 14 and be prepared to read a 60 to 90 second piece of their choice. One boy and one girl will be selected and must be available for rehearsals from June 20.
