CHILDREN have made life easier for walkers by building a bridge to link a coastal path to a mining monument.
A team of eight pupils, aged 14 and 15, from at Easington Community School, carried out the project, on the site of the town's former colliery, as part of the Urban II scheme, which encourages youngsters to give something to the community.
They built the bridge, near the pit shift memorial, after interviewing walkers who said it would be a good idea.
They designed it and were given materials by the National Trust.
Urban II facilitator Karen Readman said: "It took 12 weeks to complete and they worked very hard. They have even worked when it was minus four degrees.
"I have said to them that it was too cold but they wanted to carry on.
"Hopefully, Easington will see that these young people have given something back to the community."
