RESIDENTS are being urged to take part in a household rubbish recycling scheme.
Boxes are being distributed to all homes in the Easington district for the collection of paper, cans and glass.
The district authority has joined forces with Durham County Council and Premier Waste Management on the initiative, which aims to help tackle the mounting problem of household rubbish.
Residents are being asked to place paper, cans and glass in the box.
It will be emptied by Premier Waste on specified collection days.
If a household has more waste than fits into the box then they are being asked to place it into carrier bags and place them next to the black containers.
Councillor George Patterson said: "We need to increase the amount of waste that is being recycled and need every resident to play their part and help the environment."
