A £100,000 investment in security at an east Cleveland car park has helped it win an award.
The car park in Kirkleatham Street, Redcar, has had perimeter fencing and lighting installed as well as closed-circuit television cameras.
Cleveland Police Chief Constable Sean Price presented Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council with the borough's first Secured Car Park award, an initiative of the Association of Chief Police Officers and supported by the Home Office.
The council's parking manager, Dave Winstanley, said: "We're looking to achieve the award again later this year with similar improvements to two car parks in Fountain Street, Guisborough, and we have an ongoing commitment to improving security at all our car parks across the borough."
Mr Price said: "This is another example of the partnership working for the good of the community.
"This initiative will help reduce vehicle crime, it puts the criminals on the back foot and that can only be good for the communities of Cleveland."
Mike Whitfield, regional development manager for the Secured Car Parks scheme, said: "The award is as a result of the excellent working partnership between the police and the council."
