Arthur Reed Memorial Shield, King's Head 1 Ennis Square 0: The game was a very closely contested affair, watched by over 250 spectators, with very little to choose between the two sides.
With both defences dominating the early proceedings, the best chances fell to Jamie Swales who headed over from a corner and Mike Jones who fired over.
What turned out to be the winning goal came just minutes before half time when Ennis failed to dispose of a ball in the area and Paul Round junior headed on for Neil Hodgson to head home from close range.
The second half started with Ennis going all out to get back into the game but try as they may, they could not break through a King's Head defence with centre back Steve Smith in outstanding form and stand-in keeper Brian Crawley pulling off some fine saves.
Late in the game, Jonathan Kirk came desperately close to sending the game into extra time, but his well struck drive from outside the area curled just wide of the post.
Following the final whistle, the Arthur Read Shield Trophy was presented to King's Head skipper Neil Hodgson by Leven Bridge Engineering's general manager John McNally marking the company's sponsorship for the fourth successive year.
Also making their valuable contribution to a game were referee Steve Smitheringale, assistants Ian Goodman and Derek Yates together with fourth official Stan Davidson.
* Prior to this game kicking off, a minute's silence was held in respect of Albert Scholfield who died recently. Albert was a life member of the Stokesley League having played football for Stokesley and Middlesbrough Coop and cricket for Middlebrough, the Coop and Stokesley.
He maintained his interest in local sport after ending his playing days becoming chairman of Stokesley Football Club and Sports Club as well spending many years on the Stokesley League Management Committee eventually becoming Vice Chairman.
A great man who will sadly missed by all who knew him.
Wilf Leader Trophy Final
L. Hemlington 3 Woodman's Arms 2
Woodmans Arms got off to a flier, taking the lead through Paul Reed who beat a defender before sticking the ball in the back of the net. Five minutes later it was 2-0 when Mark Jones extended the lead. Ten minutes into the game however, the balance of play began to change with Craig Sharpe needing to pull off a fine save to stop Mark Salvati scoring from a free kick. A minute later however, Justin Godfrey was brought down in the area and Peter King stepped up to slot the ball away despite Sharp managing to get a hand on it. Linx drew level with 20 minutes gone when Salvati scored following good work from James Myers and they continued to press with Salvati and Dameon McNeil both going close.
Fifteen minutes from time McNeil produced the decisive finish lifting the ball over the keeper for what proved to be the winning goal although Myers for Linx and Ritchie for the Woodmans both had goal bound efforts well saved.
George Collings, refereeing his first final, turned in a fine performance allowing the game to flow as much as possible being ably assisted by Tony Yates and Ray Smith.
League
Middlesbrough PO 3 South Bank U 3
Following a goalless first half, three goals in ten minutes saw Post Office take the lead through Andy Fuller. United were soon back on terms when Graham Cousans scored but John Leach sidefooted home following good work from substitute Terry Edwards to restore the Postie's advantage. In a dramatic finish, United scored twice in quick succession first through Anthony Reed and then took the lead when Graham Watson latched on to a long through ball before scoring. The visitors looked all set to produce the upset of the day but in the final minute, a John Symon free kick was only parried by the United keeper and Paul Leonard was on hand to bundle the ball over the line.
Ennis Sq. SC 2 Thornaby Mandale 2
The home side struck first when Phil Bellerby turned to score with only two minutes on the clock but Mandale beat the offside trap minutes later to level things up and they went ahead early in the second period. The visitors held firm til ten minutes from time when they had to settle for a share of the points after Jonathan Kirk scored.
Kings Head 7 NS Bulls Head FC 1
King's Head had no problem disposing of the Bull's Head with Brian Crawley lobbing the keeper after 15 minutes to set them on their way. Dean McGee pounced on a defensive mix-up for goal number two before Crawley rounded off the first half with two goals to complete his hat-trick. The Bulls pulled a goal back early in the second half when Steve Thornton scored from the penalty spot but normal service was soon resumed when Gary Round found the back of the net with a diving header. Steve Smith added his name to the score sheet with a header before Crawley rounded off a fine performance by beating the offside trap before scoring his fourth.
North Skelton Village FC 1 PJS 1
Despite going behind in the tenth minute to a goal from Paul Stephenson, the Village kept battling and deservedly drew level when Craig Harris chiped the ball home from the edge of the area on the half hour. Both sides did their best to take all three points but determined defences held firm throughout the second half.
St Mary's Coll. OB 2 Thornaby Vill. 0
The College started the brighter and only two good saves by the Thornaby keeper kept St. Marys at bay, but the home sides majority of the possession was finally rewarded when from a well rehearsed free kick, Dave Aspery scored from six yards. St Mary's pushed forward looking for the all important second goal and were rewarded when an inspired substitution saw Lewis Kaid replace dad Wally. Within minutes, Kaid junior coolly rounded the Village keeper before scoring after latching on to an inch perfect through ball from Mark Elliott.
Stokesley 1 South Park Rangers 2
Gary Wilson got Stokesley off to the best start when he pounced on to a defensive mistake before putting the home side ahead with five minutes gone. Stokesley held the lead throughout the remainder of the first half but soon after the restart Rangers drew level. Fifteen minutes from time Rangers struck again and despite Stokesley's best efforts, they could not find an equaliser.
