Wardley Eagles came to Moor Park knowing that if they had started the season as they are finishing it, this would surely have been a title decider.
Both teams played good football with the defences dominating and the goalkeepers in great form particularly, Wardley's who was the buisier on the night.
A single goal scored early in the second half by Rachel Hedley proved to be decisive, ending Wardley's unbeaten run which stretched back to October.
Playing their third game in seven days, the Cestrians were slow to start against Durham City and lost Northern Ireland midfielder Rachel Furness early on. The only goal of the half came from Rae Taylor's corner which was finshed by Natalie Gutteridge, though their were several opportunities for Vikki Ryder, Rachel Hedley and Lynn Stanley.
The hosts raised their game in the second half with Taylor again providing for Gutteridge from a corner. Playing some neat football, Chester put Durham under a lot more pressure and it was no surprise when Rachel Hedley made it three from Vikki Ryder's through-ball. When a free kick was awarded it was always going to be a Rae Taylor shot but she struck the ball immaculately with her right foot to give the Durham goalkeeper no chance and make the score 4-0. The visitors heads were now dropping and Chester took full advantage, a quickly taken free kick was played to Hedley who in turn sent Ryder through for an emphatic finish. Ryder then returned the favour, sending Hedley through to lob the oncoming goalkeeper for her second and Chester's sixth.
