FOUR young mathematicians have taken part in the regional finals of a competition this week.
The year eight and nine pupils from Eastbourne School, Darlington, travelled to Durham with maths teacher Andrew Tighe to compete against 28 schools as part of the National Team Maths Challenge.
Gemma Smith, Helen Rogerson, Philip Fletcher and Matthew Ashton took part in the event, which was sponsored by the Department for Education and Skills.
Mr Tighe said that while the youngsters did not make it into the final, they had a good and challenging day out.
All the children taking part in the event worked in teams to participate in many activities, including maths relay races, cross-numbers and head-to-head contests.
