Black Swan v Grosmont: The first goal eventually came when Dunford was brought down after bursting through the Grosmont defence, Kerrigan stepped up to fire home the resulting penalty.
Swan eventually increased their lead when substitute Cotts fired home a spectacular curling shot from the left wing. The game looked safe but Grosmont created a great chance, breaking through with only the keeper to beat but Garbutt pulled off a superb save to keep the two-goal margin intact and give Swan a much-needed win.
Boosbeck Utd v Lingdale Utd
Lingdale took the lead in the 36th minute when Iseton chipped the keeper with a neat touch but Boosbeck equalised on the stroke of half time when Raw beat Thrower in the Lingdale goal. The second half began at a blistering pace with both teams going after the all-important second goal. In the 68th minute a Boosbeck corner from Raw found Dobson to give the home side the lead. Lingdale levelled again when a free kick just outside the area was taken by Whitehead who found Hodgson lurking in the six yard box to beat the helpless Boosbeck keeper. Boosbeck were then looking likely to get the winner but some great saves by Thrower stopped Thompson from adding his name to the score sheet. With five minutes left Lingdale won a penalty after some time the kick was taken but missed the target leaving the game at 2-2 - a fair result.
Goldsborough U. v Redcar Mack. Park
Goldsborough began the game well and were rewarded with a goal by Sanderson within five minutes. This spurred on the home team who netted twice more through Dent. Redcar brought themselves back into the game on the stroke of half time when Oxley scored from the penalty spot. The second half started with Goldsborough well on topo and the game was secured by two further goals from man of the match Dent and one from Marsay giving Goldsborough a win.
Lealholm v Brotton WMC
The only goal of the game came in the second half after Lealholm changed their formation and looked better for it. On the hour a Whitwekk free kick was pulled back by Carruthers enabling Crooks to score the winner.
Stakesby Arms v Whitby Fishermen
The game started at a lively pace and was fairly even until some slack defending saw Fishermen take the lead. Fishermen added two more as Stakesby let a good half's work slip and the more Stakesby going close through Smith, Brennan and Headlam but Whitby added four more as they ran out comfortable winners in a pacey encounter.
League Cup semi finals
Lingdale Tavern v Gt Ayton
Ayton had to make a change in defence when Grainge had to leave the field early due to injury, however their good early play was rewarded when Ripley broke down the right and made a perfect cross for Davey to rise and head past Moore. Ayton dominated with some good passing football Lingdale were held in their own half. But with Shane and Dane Breckon always looking for a strike on goal the defence well-marshalled by Cooper, had to be on their toes. A Lingdale corner was well cleared by Toogood but the loose ball was collected by Lingdale and a pass split the Ayton defence to set up Ashbridge for him to fire past Clement for his first goal of the season to end the first-half at 1-1.
As Lingdale put Ayton on the back foot a poor pass out of defence fell for Shane Breckon who found space to beat the advancing Clement. Calvert began winning the ball in midfield, preventing Ayton from moving forward. Lingdale now had command of the game and extended the lead when Calvert hit a blistering shot giving the keeper no chance. Ayton rallied in the last 10 minutes, a Burns shot from 30 yards whistled past the Lingdae goal and a Busby effort was well blocked by Ashbridge. In the final minutes Ayton opened up the Lingdale defence but efforts from Davey and Ripley came to nothing. An entertaining game finished with Lingdale continuing their quest for league and cup glory.
Staithes v Highland Laddie
The game was goalless at the break but Staithes came out at the start of the second half on fire, Wood and Gibson in midfield creating chances for Ward and Armstrong who couldn't convert them into goals. On the hour Laddie settled and came back into the game with Combellack always in the thick of the action. A good move saw Rye play in Combellack whose shot was slotted home by Burns. As Staithes attempted to equalise the Laddie defence held firm until the 87th minute when a cross from Ward let in sub Smith who bundled the ball into the net taking the game to extra time. Twenty minutes into extra time Laddie went ahead when Lawther crossed for Daynes to flash in a shot to the top corner. Staithes' reply was instant, Smith crossed to Wood who found Reed who made no mistake to level and take the game to a penalty shoot out which went Laddie's way with a 3-2 margin.
