A GROUP of fathers took their protest over rights to the streets of Durham city.
Wearing white overalls, face masks and sunglasses, the members of Fathers4Justice paraded through the city centre with purple banners and airhorns yesterday. Paul Watson, co-ordinator for the North-East, used a megaphone to blast the group's message outside the Children and Family Court Advisory and Support Service (Cafcass) offices in Saddler Street. He said the organisation did not treat fathers fairly during court disputes over children following divorce and separation. Mr Watson said: "Everyone knows children should have both parents.
"We wanted this to be a vocal and visible protest and, if nothing else, we have shown there are fathers who are bothered about seeing their children grow up.
"We have had a fantastic response to the campaign and no negative comments on the streets of Durham."
A spokesman for Cafcass said: "Cafcass wants to work with a variety of groups to promote the interests of children in the family courts but we cannot work with organisations that behave in an unacceptable way."
