A MUSEUM that reopened this week is asking residents for help to identify people featuring in its exhibition.

Guisborough Museum has photographs on display showing how people dressed in the town between 1860 and 1960.

Jacky Quarmby, from the museum, said: "This exhibition has given the museum the opportunity to show pictures of people in a variety of situations and styles of clothing.

"Visitors are being asked to identify some of the occasions and the participants to help the museum staff catalogue the activities of Guisborough folk past and present."

Another photographic display at the museum is dedicated to the town's musical heritage and shows brass bands and groups the town has supported over the years.

Meanwhile, renewed interest in Ralph Jackson, the 18th Century Guisborough diarist and builder of the original Normanby Hall, has led the museum to display portraits of the Jackson family, including one by Nathaniel Dance, who also painted Captain Cook.

Ms Quarmby said: "Many of the familiar displays have been updated to offer visitors more information and better opportunities to understand the items on show."

Guisborough Museum is behind Sunnyfield House, in Westgate Road, Guisborough. It is open every Thursday and Saturday between 10am and 4pm until Saturday, October 30. Admission is free.
