DURHAM Light Infantry soldiers have donated nearly £2,000 to Cancer Research after they were inspired by the daughter of a colleague.
The soldiers from the Territorial Army regimental recruitment team raised the money by taking part in the Great North Run in combat uniform and boots.
Brooke Savannah Brown, the seven-year-old daughter of Private Mark Brown, was diagnosed with leukaemia in January 2002 and, since then, she has received tremendous support from the regiment.
Private Mark Brown said: "The lads from the Light Infantry have been brilliant with Brooke since her diagnosis.
"Earlier this year, they helped to raise some money so that Brooke could go to Florida to swim with dolphins, which meant so much to her.
"Brooke has had all of her intensive treatment now, and she has responded well to it.
"She now has regular hospital visits to receive treatment, including chemotherapy, and things are going very well."
