A TEENAGER from Chester-le-Street is one of three Army cadets selected to represent Great Britain in an open target rifle shooting competition.
Staff Sergeant Richard Stebbings, 17, will shoot at a contest in the Channel Islands, in August.
He has been a member of Chester-le-Street Detachment Durham Army Cadet Force (ACF) for four years and is a pupil of Park View Community School.
Richard, who has ambitions to join the Army as an officer, has represented Durham ACF for the past two years at the Bisley International Shooting Competition.
Major Alison Twinn, of Durham ACF, said: "We are all tremendously proud of Richard and his excellent achievement.
"He has represented both Durham and the North-East on several occasions and now has received national status, which is absolutely remarkable."
Richard is hoping to travel to India with the cadets later this year in an exchange scheme as well as attending a camp in Germany.
Durham ACF is looking for cadets aged 12 to 18 to follow in Richard's footsteps and adults to train them.
