Veteran athlete Jim Caddy has received £1,000 towards his travelling expenses to the World Veterans Championships, in New Zealand, this month.
The 79-year-old is among individuals and community groups from across west Redcar to be awarded grants from the area's Single Regeneration Budget.
Furniture is being delivered to St Hilda's Church, on the Lakes estate, after deputy churchwarden Dennis Richmond successfully applied for a grant of £995.90 to replace 12 tables and 72 chairs for the church hall from the community chest.
The fund is financed through One NorthEast, the regional development agency, and managed by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council.
The 9th Redcar Brownies, received £600 towards two trips, Newcomen Ward Community Forum received £700 to cover a year's running costs, the Take Heart Support Group received £1,000 to fund a class tutor and the Dormanstown and Redcar branch of the Merchant Navy Association received £380 to take members to the group's annual meeting and hire the Cleveland Police Band to play at a memorial service.
Redcar Judo Club received £1,000 towards its annual open tournament and a four-day summer school, and Coatham House, which provides supported accommodation for young homeless, received £1,000 towards new settees and redecorating.
