TRAINEE chefs from the North-East are savouring the smell of success after winning a cooking competition.
The students, from the Hylton Centre, at City of Sunderland College, won six first places at the Salon Culinaire contest, held at St James' Park, Newcastle.
It was the first time the college had entered the competition for five years.
Jarrod Wright, 17, won both the Coca-Cola award for the highest marks scored and won his class for the best lamb dish.
The team also won the Maurice Barlow Challenge Trophy team grand prix and the Derek Leffman Memorial Trophy for scoring the highest marks overall.
Katy Thompson, catering course leader at the college, said: "This is a tremendous achievement for the students. Many will go on to pursue a career in catering and no doubt we are seeing some of tomorrow's star chefs in the making."
