THE mother of a murdered teenager is backing a residents' association attempt to stop anti-social behaviour.

Theresa Cave, whose 17-year-old son, Chris, was murdered on the Lakes housing estate in Redcar, east Cleveland, volunteered to join the Residents' Association Board after its meeting yesterday.

Mrs Cave and other residents also agreed to help establish a youth club on the town's Lakes Estate.

The meeting was organised by landlords Coast and Country Housing at the Oxbridge Close Community Centre and about 40 people attended to discuss ways to tackle problems on the estate.

Mrs Cave recently agreed to call off a protest march after Coast and Country Housing agreed to demolish the flat, in Burnmoor Close, where her son was stabbed to death in June last year.

After yesterday's meeting, she said: "It was a bit of a farce because you couldn't really get a straight answer from the people from Coast and Country. We would say, 'old people are scared to come out of their homes and they want CCTV cameras, can we have them?' They kept saying things like, 'we'll have to do a feasibility study' and so on.

"The good bit was forming a residents' board and talking about a youth club to give the young people something to do."

No one was available to comment from Coast and Country Housing after the meeting last night.
