POLICE last night named a mother and her five-year-old son who were killed in an accident on the A1.
Bernadette Moate, 32 and her son, Callum Farr, of North Marine Road, Scarborough, North Yorkshire, were hit as they crossed the road.
The accident happened on Saturday night after the Vauxall Carlton estate car in which they were passengers hit a roadside barrier near the Boot and Shoe pub, near Sherburn-in-Elmet, North Yorkshire.
Police said they got out of the car and crossed the southbound carriageway to get to a nearby petrol station and hotel.
Callum was hit by a car, and Ms Moate was hit by several vehicles.
The driver of the estate car they had been in, Haydn Samuels, 48, also of North Marine Road, is understood to have been taking Ms Moate to see her father, who had just been discharged from hospital following a heart attack.
He has been questioned by police and released on bail pending further inquiries.
Police have appealed for witnesses, and anyone with information is asked to call (0845) 606 0606. They particularly want to speak to the drivers involved in the accident.
