EAST Coast Main Line operator GNER is to be the first train company to launch a mobile office.
Following a successful trial, GNER said it was the only rail operator to achieve the technological breakthrough of providing uninterrupted wireless Internet coverage while travelling at high speed.
GNER has teamed up with solution provider lcomera to develop the service after seeing it in operation on trains in Scandinavia.
The company believes the innovation will transform UK travel, ensuring time spent on trains can be more productive for business passengers and more enjoyable for other customers.
By the end of the year, GNER plans to have fitted satellites to ten of its rebuilt Mallard electric trains.
As part of the trial, the wireless communication system is available free to first-class customers on two of GNER's high-speed trains and on one of the three Mallard trains now in service.
The service will become available throughout trains from summer. It will be free to first-class passengers. Standard-class travellers will be charged £4.95 an hour.
