MORE than £5m will be invested in housing by Darlington Borough Council over the next year.
More than £2m will be spent on Oban Court, a council-run sheltered housing scheme in the Whinfield area.
Upgrades to all the flats are proposed, including new kitchens and bathrooms, some extensions, and improved central heating.
There will be a new common room and dining area and a lift will be installed.
Extra Care - a 24-hour care initiative by social services - will now be available for all residents who have had their needs assessed and have chosen to have their care provided by social services. A warden will also remain on site.
A further £2.5m is to be spent on improving council properties in Parkside and Hundens Lane, Dodds Street and the Branksome, Lascelles and Bank Top areas of town and in Harrowgate Hill, Albert Hill and Cockerton.
Some money will be available for grants for adapting properties for people with disabilities.
