HAIRDRESSING apprentice Julie Avery scooped second place in two categories at a competition.
Julie, from Sacriston, near Chester-le-Street, took part in the recent National Hairdressing Federation Competitions in Blackpool.
She was the only competitor from the North-East to achieve a place in the event.
Julie designed a style using model Cassy Lucas for the Beautiful Bride category and a funky fashion style using finger drying with her mother Gwyneth Avery as model.
Julie is in the second year of a hairdressing foundation modern apprenticeship with Durham Business Club.
The club's hairdressing manager, Jayne Robinson, said: "This is the first time we have had an apprentice achieve a place at the competitions and we are overjoyed and extremely proud, not only of Julie's well deserved success but the achievement of all the young apprentices."
Seventeen young apprentices from Durham Business Club took part in six different categories at the competition, all finishing in the top third of their category.
