SOLICITORS are continuing to battle for compensation for miners despite the deadline for claims ending.
The national compensation scheme, backed by the Government, closed to claimants on March 31.
About 515,000 chest disease claims were lodged by the end of last month.
Anthony Patterson, of Thompsons solicitors, said: "People have waited until the last minute to register their claims. We will be dedicating our time to ensure these people receive what is rightfully theirs for some time to come."
The firm, which has offices across the North, has already received £250m in compensation for former miners.
It is in the process of presenting test cases of workers who did not go down the mines but washed coal and later became ill.
