Junior round-up
Billingham Falcons picked up their first English U14 North A League point of the season from a 5-5 draw at Telford Venom. It was Falcons' final regular league season before the promotion-relegation play-offs which will begin later this month.
Telford went ahead at 01.35 only for Jimmy Moutrey to equalise a minute later. In the 12th minute Venom struck twice to take a 3-1 advantage.
Moutrey cut the deficit in the 17th minute only for Telford to score another three minutes later. With three minutes remaining in the second period Jonathan Galloway scored a third Falcons goal.
Telford went 5-3 ahead six minutes into the final period. Billingham, not to be sitting back, kept battling away and went within one of Venom when Moutrey hit his hat-trick marker two minutes later.
The scores were level with a little over two minutes left when Falcons' man of the match Moutrey struck his fourth of the game to earn his side a fully deserved first point of the season.

Sunderland Scorpions, already winners of the women's premier league, made the long trek to tackle Basingstoke Lady Bison and were easy 11-0 winners. Scorpions handed a debut to Great Britain international Eleanor Maitland.
Scorpions went ahead through Gemma Watt on the powerplay at 10.04 and Jane Price added another four minutes later.
Sunderland, well on top against the team with just one point this season and increased their lead to 7-0 by the end of the second period. Heather McDermott and Claire Oldfield scored early into the period, Jayne McClelland and Gemma Rolt around the game's halfway point and Watt on target in the final minute of the period.
There was no let up in the final period and Scorpions were restricted to just four goals. Rolt, McClelland, Oldfield and Nikki Pattinson completed the scoring. Scorpions netminder Pauline Anderson faced 17 shots for her shut-out.
On the Basingstoke goal Scorpions had 73 shots on their net.

Sunderland Commanches (U14) and Arrows (U16) were in Kirkcaldy, Fife, to compete in the Hockey UK 2004 U14 and U16 events. Commanches went out in the final while Arrows slipped to defeat at the semi-final stage.
Commanches performed well in the six-team event winning two, drawing two and losing one of the round robin matches. Nathan Salem scored the only goal in a 1-0 win over Slough. Aberdeen lost 3-0 with Danny Lamb, Salem and Grant Sharp finding the target.
A couple of 0-0 draws against Comet (Norway) and Kirkcaldy came before a 0-4 defeat by Swedish side Osby.
In the semi-finals Commanches faced Comet. Salem put Sunderland ahead at 12.55 and Comet tied the scores in the final minute. A Callum Davies penalty shot took Commanches into the final.
Hosts Kirkcaldy defeated Sunderland to take the title with goals at 06.30 and 40.30.
Arrows went out at the semi-final stage to Slough. In the round robin game Arrows won three and lost two of their five matches. North Ayr were beaten3-0 as a Dean Holland brace and Jeremy Lunkin strike opened their account. Narrow 2-1 wins over Aberdeen (Holland, Lundin) and Swedish side Kiruna (Lundin and Mark Robson) put points on the board.
However, Arrows lost twice to Slough 2-4 (Holland and Ben Cannon) and to Fife 1-2 (Martyn Davies). Martyn Davies gave Arrows a 40 second lead in the semi-final against Slough who were level five minutes later, the winning goal coming at 11.45.
In the final Slough defeated North Ayr 9-1.
Commanches' Thomas Murdy was named best netminder of the U14 tournament.

At the Elite ice hockey league play-off finals weekend at Nottingham, there was the annual U19 home international between England and Scotland. On Sunday morning England won for the sixth time in seven seasons, winning 3-1. The North-East had three representatives in Steven Pritchard, Liam Telfer and Andrew Thornton who all play for Billingham. Sunderland's Michael Allinson was selected, but was a late pull out.
Sheffield's Greg Wood (2) and Slough's Shaun Thompson were England's scorers. Wood bagged a final period brace to gain victory after Scotland had equalised, Thompson's 12th minute goal.
After the youth international Peterborough Phantoms met Milton Keynes Lighting for the Planet Ice Shield. Milton Keynes won 2-0 over fellow English premier league side Peterborough.
Former Sunderland Chief Adam Carr assisted on Lightning's second goal which secured the win late in the game. Phantoms netminder was Stephen Wall who has played for Whitley Warriors, Sunderland Chiefs and Newcastle Vipers.
In the Elite play-off final Sheffield Steelers defeated arch rivals Nottingham Panthers 2-1.
Fife Flyers defeated Edinburgh Capitals 13-9 on aggregate to win the Caledonian Cup at the weekend. Fife, helped by a Dan Goneau hat-trick, went to Murrayfield on Sunday with a 6-3 first leg win in Kirkcaldy the previous night.
Capitals led 6-5 with three minutes to go on the night to trail 9-11 before two Flyers goals gave them victory. Tony Hand MBW and Steven Kaye each scored twice for Edinburgh and Flyers' assistant coach Karry Biette a hat-trick in the 7-6 win.
Guildford Flames are Findus British National League play-off champions after a 9-7 aggregate victory over rivals Bracknell Bees at the weekend. Flames took the first leg 5-4 in Bracknell and the second on home ice 4-3.
Billingham Bears completed their regular league season in the English U16 North A defeating hosts Telford Rockets 6-1. Bears, already champions, broke the deadlock at 09.54 with a powerplay strike from Robert Dowd and added a second two minutes later. With just seconds remaining in the first period Telford pulled a goal back.
Bears had two players in the penalty box when Anthony Price made it 3-0. A John Elkins brace quickly followed with Bears one player down for 5-0 at 28.15. Elkins completed the scoring with his hat-trick marker at 41.21.
