A school is aiming to stimulate the senses of children by creating a sensory garden.

Harrow Gate Primary School in Stockton received a helping hand from a local car dealership which has donated £200 towards the scheme.

Deputy headteacher, Dianne Gage contacted Simon Bailes after hearing of his firm's work in the local community. The firm sent cash to help buy tools, materials, plants and other equipment.

Mrs Gage said: "We thought that we could use parts of our grounds more creatively and decided that a garden that could be used by children, parents, staff and other members of the community would really enhance opportunities for learning and working together.

"I'd heard about Simon Bailes's work with other local schools and decided to see if he could help us out. I was delighted when Simon told us he would contribute to the garden."

Simon Bailes, managing director of Simon Bailes Limited, said: "When I was contacted by Harrow Gate Primary I was absolutely delighted to get involved. It's always a pleasure to see schoolchildren helping their local community and this garden is a great idea. I'm looking forward to revisiting the school over the coming months to see the fruits of their labour."
