Spennymoor manager Tony Lee is hoping his team has finally turned the corner.

Moors came back from 2-0 down to beat Ashton United 3-2 on Tuesday in what many thought was Moors' most exciting game of the season.

They trailed 2-0 at half time but the dismissal of Ashton keeper Andy Johnston for swearing at a linesman seconds after he saved Jon Cullen's penalty turned the game. Steve Preen and Neal Bishop quickly equalised, and Preen got the winner in the dying minutes, although there was still time for Ashton to have a goal disallowed.

Lee was delighted with Preen, who hadn't scored with November. "Steve has done really well for us in recent weeks, even though he hasn't scored," he said.

"He's had to play in defence when players were injured, so we were delighted when he scored.

"Hopefully, that will give him some extra confidence."

Moors are now four points inside the play off zone, and there is every possibility that at some stage in the play offs they may play Whitby, who are battling to finish in the top 13.

Bishop Auckland are still battling for a top 13 automatic promotion place in the First Division.

They lost 2-1 to Witton Albion in midweek, after leading 1-0 at half time with a goal from Sean Hope, to leave them in 13th.

The fund organised by Bishop Auckland fans towards the new stadium at Tindale Crescent has almost reached the £500 mark.

Bishops are at Farsley tomorrow, and then on Monday morning take on Billingham Town in the final of the Durham Challenge Cup.

Blyth's play off chances are receding after they lost 5-1 at home to Droylsden on Tuesday. They finished with eight men, because they had a man sent off, and two others went off injured after all their subs had been used.

Tuesday night's UniBond League gates were badly affected because of the televised Arsenal v Chelsea match. Seven clubs reported their lowest gates of the season, including Spennymoor who were watched by only 84 people against Ashton United.

Whitby's crowd of 186 against Runcorn, in which Ben Dixon scored the winner, was also their lowest of the season.
