SCHOOL pupils have been learning there is more to Easter than chocolate eggs.
Youngsters at Abbey Infant and Junior Schools in Darlington took part in art, drama and music sessions with the Reverend John Dobson, from All Saints and Salutation Church, in Blackwell, to learn about Holy Week and Easter.
Junior school headteacher George Ford said that Mr Dobson and members of his congregation went into the school to work with pupils.
"They have been doing art work, drama and music culminating in two large assemblies for parents telling the Holy Week story, with Easter hymns. It has put religious education into a sort of interactive setting where the pupils can look at the stories and assess them themselves.
"A lot of the children will be going to the church on Easter Sunday to continue the celebration and show their work to the rest of the congregation.
"It's been fantastic for people from different areas of the community to come into the school to celebrate and produce something as exciting as this."
