FIRE officers have teamed up with police and air ambulance crews to stage a two-day road safety awareness campaign.
The event will be held in the Cleveland Centre, Middlesbrough, from 10am to 4pm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The campaign is aimed at alerting drivers to take extra care on the roads.
It will use hard-hitting reminders, including a car wrecked in a high-impact crash, and a leaflet designed in partnership with Brake, the national road safety charity.
Jimmy Ruse, station officer at Coulby Newham fire station, said: "Fire crews attended 482 road traffic accidents last year and we want drivers to be more safety conscious on the roads.
"We will be setting up a stall in the Cleveland Centre to encourage shoppers to pick up a leaflet on safer driving and take a close look at the damage done to the car, provided by the police, in a high-impact collision.
"The whole event is aimed at making people think really hard about the consequences of thoughtless driving."
