VOLUNTEERS are needed to help people in Chester-le-Street with their everyday problems.
The Citizens Advice Bureau, in Front Street, is gearing up for a recruitment drive as part of a scheme to expand its service.
Manager Vaughan Davidson would like to hear from people who can spare six hours a week.
They will be required to listen to members of the public and advise them of options regarding their problems.
Mr Davidson said: "The idea is to ensure that individuals do not suffer through a lack of knowledge of their rights and responsibilities.
"We are independent and provide free, confidential impartial advice to everybody regardless of race, gender, sexuality and disability."
Those interested will be interviewed and successful people will undertake a five-week training course.
Volunteers can specialise in areas such as employment, benefits, and debt management among others.
Mr Davidson said: "It teaches people transferable skills and gives you a new attitude to people in difficulty.
"Most of our clients are very grateful and it is satisfying to make things better for a person. It gives you a bit of perspective."
