A SUPPORT scheme that helps to keep young people out of trouble is looking to expand.
The Directions Project, in Middlesbrough, has been described as "excellent'' by Ofsted, and works with 800 youngsters.
The counselling service wants to recruit more staff to work with children from the age of eight to 19.
Project manager Peter Carter said: "The aim of the project is trying to make a difference on behaviour and in the long-term, their life.
"I am very proud to be part of this scheme. When young people come up to you and thank you for making a positive impact on their life it is so satisfying."
The project preparing youngsters for employment, counsels them on health and personal safety issues and teaches parenting skills and care for the environment.
The team started in August 2001, with funding from the Neighbourhood Renewal Fund to concentrate on a core group of 50 children, aged 13 to 16.
The team has ten members and is in the Beechwood Youth and Community Centre, and with grants from the Children's Fund works with eight to 12 year olds.
It is looking for funding to expand further.
