ACTOR Robert Hardy revisited one of his favourite parts of the country when he took a rail journey through the Yorkshire Dales.
Famous, among other things, for his role as Siegfried in TV's All Creatures Great and Small, Mr Hardy travelled from Leyburn to Leeming Bar and back on the Wens*eydale Railway.
He explored the station, ate lunch in the restored buffet and met the staff who keep the locomotives running. Mr Hardy played a role in the re-opening of the line after 50 years when he supported the £1m share offer that made the service possible.
Wensleydale Railway, which reinstated a passenger service between Leeming Bar and Leyburn last year, is planning a special weekend on April 24 and 25 marking the line's closure, which was the end of a way of life for many local people in 1954.
