A COMMUNITY that was hit by floods twice in one year could be in line for new defences.
Skinningrove, near Saltburn, east Cleveland, was badly hit by flooding in July and November 2000 and the village was given flood defences.
But a report states that other defences must now be replaced to protect hundreds of homes and prevent a repeat of the mass evacuation of residents.
An early warning system, protective walls and floodgates at Stone Row bridge have prevented further flooding since 2000.
However, a report by Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council says that rock armour on Skinningrove seafront needs to be reconstructed.
The rocks prevent waves crashing on to Marine Terrace, but they have been damaged because of the force of the water.
The proposal to replace them and widen and deepen a beck is supported by The North Eastern Sea Fisheries Committee.
The plan will be discussed by councillors on Thursday.
