A CAFE is selling badges to try help mend a church clock.
Gordon Witten and his wife, Eileen, who run the Wittens of Stanhope Cafe, in the Weardale village, decided they wanted to help when they heard that the clock at nearby St Thomas's Church was in need of repair.
Mr Witten said: "We read that the clock needed to be repaired and that there was an appeal for donations. I have heard it will cost around £1,500. We used to sell badges and the company we dealt with offered to print off 1,000 of the church for us so we could sell them.''
Mr Witten, who has been in business in Stanhope for 25 years, said he hoped to sell as many of the 50p badges as possible and raise at least £250.
He said: "There is the potential there to raise £500. We do not expect to sell all 1,000, but it would be nice.''
