FOOTBALL hero John Beresford put the best of the North-East's young footballing talent through their paces yesterday.
More than 150 aspiring stars gathered in Gateshead to compete for a place in this year's Fox Kids Cup final.
At the event, the second of seven regional heats taking place in the search for the nation's ultimate young team, boys and girls aged under 13 showed their skills.
Eight boys and eight girls selected by judges will learn of their success this week.
They will go on to a heat in Bolton on May 16 to decide who goes through to the national final.
From there, the final team will be selected to represent the country at the international final, to be held at Manchester United's new youth training camp in Paris on June 21 to 25.
The Fox Kids Cup 2004 brings together children from across the world in an international final.
