A NEW-style council office is now also a meeting place for youngsters.
The venue was created at Coxhoe Leisure Centre, home to Durham City Council's first "one stop shop".
The council paid for alterations to create a youth room that will double as a meeting room for adult organisations.
The project was carried out with the Coxhoe Community Partnership, which is responsible for the village's play and skate parks.
Durham Labour Group gave tables, while money for equipment came from the Electrolux Employees' Fund, Coxhoe Parish Council and Nestle's Make Space Club.
A city council spokesman said: "The initial weekly session on Wednesday evenings will shortly be expanded as the funding for the employment of youth workers, who have to be present when the room is open, has recently been confirmed."
