A GRANDMOTHER is campaigning to help save the lives of others after losing her daughter.
Mandi Blake, 32, died in November 2001 from an undetected heart problem.
Now her mother, Margo Wright, 54, is raising funds to pay for the hire of a mobile screening service so more people at risk of the condition can be checked.
"We want to prevent this happening to other people and it is the young we have to worry about," said Mrs Wright.
Mrs Wright, of Middlesbrough, is organising a charity evening in aid of Cry (Cardiac Risk in the Young) in the main hall of Teesside University, Middlesbrough, on Friday, April 23, with the help of two mediums.
A £5,500 mobile unit can screen up to 40 people a day.
Mrs Wright said: "There were five people picked out at the last screening. My other daughter was one, and Mandi's son, though happily it was a minor thing."
She is hoping the benefit night will raise £1,500 for Cry.
"No one could tell us what had happened to Mandi and we waited 15 months for an inquest, so you can imagine the things that went through our heads in that time. There was only Cry to help and explain."
Mrs Wright's sister has a heart condition and, more recently, her brother was diagnosed with heart trouble.
Tickets for the event can be obtained on (01642) 217494 or 284812.
