COASTGUARDS are warning people to be aware of incoming tides after three people became trapped at the weekend.
A couple in their forties, from Wales, were caught out by the tide under Huntcliff, at Saltburn, east Cleveland, while out for a walk at about 7pm on Sunday.
They were spotted by a passer-by who used a mobile phone to call for help.
Crews from Skinningrove and Redcar Coastguard helped the couple wade to safety.
Shortly afterwards, the coastguards spotted a man in his forties cut off by the tide between Skinningrove and Saltburn.
The man was rescued by a helicopter sent from Leconfield, near Beverley, East Yorkshire.
A spokesman for Skinningrove Coastguard said: "People simply do not realise about the tide. They do not realise how quickly they can be caught out. It comes in very quickly near the Ship pub at Saltburn.
"It is worthwhile buying a tide table from tourist information centres along the coast, or the Smugglers Heritage Centre in Saltburn."
