A five-month-old baby injured in an accident on the A19 on Saturday was last night in a stable condition.
The baby, who is not being named, received serious head injuries when the car being driven by her 22-year-old father careered off the road at the Peterlee exit on the southbound carriageway.
The man and his 19-year-old wife were taken to the University Hospital of Hartlepool with minor injuries. The child is in the James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough.
