Cleveland League, Division One: Redcar Lakes A extended their lead at the top of the table to six points after beating last year's champions and second-placed Redcar Workies A 4-2.
Jason Robinson won his first frame against Gary Beckett 93-22 but Beckett levelled the match at one frame each when winning the second game 73-59. Dave Beckett then put the Lakes 3-1 in front after beating Andrew Fairley 66-22 and 66-18. During their first frame Dave Beckett compiled a 53 break. Ronnie Bickerdike pulled a frame back for the Workies when beating Steve Quain 79-12 points but Quain sealed the victory when winning the final frame 66-43.
Lune Street A recorded an excellent 5-1 home win against Redcar Lakes B. Gary Moon lost his first game to Graham Marshall 53-58 but won the second game 70-56. Steve Suggett then took two frames from Neil Grey with scores of 50-25 and 53-37. Chris Smith then won the final two frames against Steve Hill 44-34 and 59-16. Marske Workies A recorded an excellent 4-2 away win against Ennis Square A. Grinkle Park also chalked up a 4-2 away win against their opponents, Guisborough Cons. A. New Marske A won on home territory beating Guisborough TA 4-2. The final match of the week between Carlin How A and Redcar Unionist's A ended 3-3.
Division Two
Redcar Unionist's B team had one of the results of the week in division two when they recorded a 4-2 home win against Saltburn Cons. B. Chris Gray set the standard when winning both of his frames against Dave Tait with scores of 54-45 and 63-33. Anthony McGee then made it 3-0 in frames when beating Dave Robinson 46-32. Robinson then struck back winning the next game 58-15. Kevin Wilson then made it 4-1 when beating Ian Goodwill 65-28, but Goodwill rallied and won the last game 47-38. The Redcar Cons. B team also recorded a 4-2 home win against Guisborough Cons. B. The Lodge's A team continued their excellent season with a 5-1 home win against Brotton Workies A, Redcar Lakes C also beat their opponents The Lodge B by the same scoreline. Promotion contenders, Val's Priory A were beaten at home this week by Ennis Square B, during this match Steve Buckton compiled an excellent 42 break against John Bracchi. South Bank Albion continued their blistering form when recording a 4-2 away victory against Marske Workies B, during this match Phil Hartley compiled a 60 break, while son John chalked up a 51.
Knockout competitions
The winter competitions are drawing to a close in the Cleveland Billiards and Snooker League, with more finals and semi-finals having being scheduled over the next couple of weeks.
The Ivor Robinson Trophy, a three-man team snooker handicap, will see Guisborough Cons A taking on Redcar Cons A in the Final. This game will be played at South Bank Albion Club on Monday, April 26 (7pm).
The semi-finals of the Reg Boyle Cup, a handicapped individual snooker event, will see one former champion in action. Ron Bickerdyke (Redcar WMC), won this event way back in 1987 and he will be looking to boost his chances of another success after being drawn against Ricky Heseltine (The Lodge, Liverton). This game takes place at Saltburn Cons on Thursday, April 22 (7pm), and Heseltine will receive 25 points start per frame, in the best of five frames match.
The other semi-final sees Brian Norris (Redcar Lakes), taking on Andrew Wiseman (Carlin How). This game is at Guisborough Cons Club on Tuesday, April 20 (7pm). Wiseman will receive 20 points start per frame.
The final of the Corner Trophy Individual Billiards event, between 17 times champion Keith Corner (New Marske), and 15-year-old Dominic Mulhall (South Bank Albion), will be arranged at the next meeting.
Worthington CIU
Winter League
Spennymoor A only need one point from their visit to Bearpark A in the final week of the season to clinch the League Championship after they whitewashed the visiting Wheatley Hill A in the top of the table battle. Earlier in the season when the teams met at the Hill, the Moors edged through by the odd point but this time there were no mistakes as they had wins from Paul Atkinson, Paul Biddle, Karl Welch, Michael Pratt and Eddie Rhodes to go five points clear at the top.
Wheatley Hill A are certain to take the runners-up awards as they still lead Fishburn A by 13 points despite the Fishburn whitewash of the visiting Brandon. The home points came from John Griffin, Charlie Hirst, Peter Davison, Brian Quest and John Carter.
Newton Aycliffe are at the bottom of the First Division after going down by the odd point at Cockton Hill. The home side had wins from Andrew Aisbitt with a 41 break, Kevin Mordica with a 69 break and Harold Lomax, whilst Michael Hewitt and Ronnie Hall replied.
Sherburn Village are also facing relegation after they lost by the odd point at Witton Gilbert, who had wins from John Rooney junior, Paul Nord and Michael Pratt. John Bower replied for Sherburn, who are one ahead of Newton Aycliffe but three behind Shotton Palms, who they entertain in the final week.
Old Shildon slipped after their maximum victory last week when they went down at Shotton Palms with only one point to their credit. Paul Hickman, John Armstrong, Jimmy Evans and Dave Swindle won for the Palms with David Waites replying.
Bearpark A ended their relegation fears when they took all the points at Wingate through Steve Mountain, Shaun Easter, Alan Smith, Andy Donaldson and Glen Morton.
Crowtrees A, who had already clinched the Second Division title, only dropped one point to the visiting Newhouse who had Billy Thompson as their only winner. The home points came from Steve Armstrong, who put in breaks of 38, 32 and 34, Sonny Hann, Sean Johnston and Keith McLauchlan.
Promotion from the Second Division is still a major fight with Willington and Meadowfield level, two points ahead of Newhouse. Willington only dropped one point at Ferryhill A, who avoided the whitewash when Ian Fawcett took the final frame. The visiting winners were Arthur Goldsborough, Tom Parkin, Jimmy Martin and Stan Bennett.
Meadowfield only dropped one point at Wheatley Hill B to leave the hosts fighting to retain Second Division status. Craig Hughes with a 32 break, Ian Hodgson, Stephen Hughes and Martin Halliday won for Meadowfield with Jock Frost taking the Hill's lone point.
Despite winning in the decider over the visiting Sacriston, Stanley Central are still two points below Whatley Hill B at the bottom of the Second Division. Walter Cornell and Jimmy Dufton won for the Central with Ronnie Bradley and Tom Burlison replying. In the decider the Central's Harry Grimes beat Dale Evans.
Langley Park could still face the drop from the Second Division after they took the first three frames against the visiting Belmont with wins from Lawrence Jones, Peter Morgan and Lenny Thompson but Tom Robinson senior and Michael Short almost ended Belmont's relegation fears when they took the last two frames.
Coundon beat the visiting Spennymoor B in the decider after both had dropped out of the Second Division promotion race in the last few weeks. Graham Goulbourn and Billy Goggins won for Coundon with Alan Rouell and Wayne Parry with a 30 break levelling. In the decider, Coundon's Frank Nicholson beat Micky Anderson on the final black.
New Durham, already Third Division champions, dropped the first two frames to the visiting Hunwick A, whod wins from Peter Mernor and Steven Webb, who had a 30 break. Kevin Scullion and Neil Phillips with a 34 break levelled before Gordon Bowes took the home side to victory by beating Neville Blenkinsopp in the decider.
Leeholme A managed to stay one point ahead of Hunwick A when they were never headed on their trip to Tow Law A. Ian North put the visitors ahead but Tommy Williams levelled. Ray Gill restored the Leeholme lead only to see Stephen Laing equalise. In the decider Barry Shaw took the visitors to victory when he beat Doug Watson.
Tow Law B are two points behind Hunwick A after they only dropped one point at Durham City, who had Barry Stoddart as their only winner. The Lawyers points came from Eric Lockerbie, Ian Johnson, Adam Orton and John Wilson.
Hunwick B beat the visiting Crowtrees B in the decider when David Penman beat John Hall. The earlier home points came from Tom Ward and Barry Fleming with Martin Wolf and Terry Gibson levelling.
Fishburn B won by the odd point at Leeholme B with wins from Alan Wilson, Michael Bell and Winston Hodgson, whilst Anthony Forster and John Taylor replied. Ferryhill B were never headed at Bearpark B when Mark Wilson put them ahead. Steve Gott levelled only to see Ian Roddam restore the visitors' lead. Paul Wilson equalised but David Nelson took Ferryhill to victory by beating Bob Lumley in the decider.

Crook League
Crook Travellers Rest B, who had already clinched the First Division Championship, went down in their final match at Crook Golden Fleece by three points but this still left them five points clear of the second placed, Crook Olde Horse Shoe, who ended 13 points clear of Crook Belle Vue.
The Golden Fleece had singles wins from David March, Graham Young, Jim Smith and Chris Baker with Trevor Smith and Keith Thompson adding the doubles. The points for the Travellers Rest B came from Jim Ainsley and Neil Campbell.
In the Second Division, Crook Coach and Horses B completed the season with an unbeaten record to win the title by 28 points from Crook White Swan B, who finished seven points ahead of Crook Olde Horse Shoe B.
In their final match the Coach and Horses B only dropped one point to the visiting Crook Olde Horse Shoe B, who had Wayne Smith as their only winner. The home points came from David Craggs, Stephen Burke, David Haygarth, Gerald Parkin and Les Scott with Craggs and Scott adding the doubles.
